Give the Power of Hope
Many teens growing up in urban, or even suburban, parts of Marin miss out on the depth of experience that a week living in a beautiful natural setting can create. When you add to that setting a leadership team of artists and a powerful creative process, you offer teens a chance to develop new ways of being and leading that can change their lives.
Commonweal is offering such an opportunity through the Power of Hope week-long residential camp for teens in the Point Reyes National Seashore on the beautiful 100-acre Commonweal site. Commonweal, founded in 1976, is a nationally recognized nonprofit with programs in health and healing, education and the arts, and environment and justice.
The Power of Hope camps are an internationally renowned and tested method to help develop young leaders, productive community members and compassionate citizens. The camps are led by a diverse and talented staff, highly trained in creative facilitation, art, music, movement and nature experience. They attract an incredible community of youth from all walks of life, socioeconomic classes, gender and race identities. Together staff and participants create new ways of being—breaking down barriers of difference, encouraging creativity, developing leadership, and deepening the skills of listening and self-expression. The Power of Hope creates bonds across differences, not only for the week at camp, but for a lifetime.
“I will continue to explore myself, in the world around me and notice every little thing to inspire me. School will be more fun, I will be more creative at home, and I will carry myself with the knowledge that I am me and I’m lovely.”
“The most important thing I learned during my participation in the program, is to be positive and to seek support from my community and give back to my community.”
“I will now act, do, and participate in changing the world, I can help my community and heal my friends.”
“I learned about activism, creativity and the amount of love and support a group of people can produce. I will try to make messages with my art and music.”
Give a young person in Marin a transformative experience at the Power of Hope summer camp in West Marin.
Each year we reserve 70% of our spaces for low income youth who otherwise would not be able to afford this opportunity. This year, with your help, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Your donation would help to support a community of youth from diverse backgrounds, coming together in the exploration of empowerment. To find out more about camp and how you can participate click here.
To make a donation to sponsor a young person to attend the 2017 Power of Hope Camp, please click here. The cost to provide one full week of camp to each child is $1,200, all donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to produce a camp for 45 Marin youth this summer.
Please join us in changing a young person's life this summer.
